Life and Education
"Don't ever believe that when the bell rings you're through with learning."
Pat is a life-long resident of San Joaquin County. He was raised in the small agricultural town of Farmington. Lazy summer days were spent on the little league field where he first learned the complexities of relationships and teamwork. There was always work to do around the ranch: picking walnuts, almonds, pecans, tending to hogs and livestock. However, the memories of having to hoe star thistle are not pleasant.
He went to high school in Escalon, played football and baseball and graduated in 1980. He spent a short time as a dairyman but soon became interested in firefighting. His first career would be a fire chief in 1985. It was around this time that he met his future wife Kathy, a Cornhusker from Nebraska. While volunteering in her home economics classroom, he became fascinated with the possibility of becoming a teacher. He and Kathy are celebrating their 35rd wedding anniversary.
Today the Briggs are still in education. Pat is beginning his 25th year as a teacher, and Kathy has been a teacher and is an administrator in the Riverbank Unified School District. She is currently the principal of California Avenue Elementary School. They have two sons. Patrick-Robert (RHS class of 2007) is a probation officer with the State of Nebraska Supreme Court. Robert-Adam (RHS class of 2017) is a senior at CSU Stanislaus. He is majoring in liberal studies and hopes to become a kindergarten teacher. The Briggs reside in Escalon.
